Oh Brother Where Art Thou? is a 2001 rendition of The Odyssey story, but with a 1930s Southern Dixie texture. It replaces Harpies with Southern ladies singing, Hermes with a old blind man, and the Cyclops with the Ku Klux Klan. The symbolism is so discreet that you forget that you're watching a rendition of a much older story.

And instead of Odysseus and his men, it's three fugitives named Everett, Pete and Delmar. Everett is the unofficial leader of the gang, only because he's the smartest. Pete's the more pessemistic supporter, constantly power-struggling with Everett. Then there's Delmar, the not-so-bright character, so naturally, he's the comic relief. At the beginning of the movie, the three just escaped the State pen, and make their way to find what Everett describes as the $1.2M he stole from an armored car job he committed a while back, which he hid not too far from his old family cabin.

This one's a good, clean comedy, especially if you're into Southern heritage and tradtion. It's technically a parody, but a good one at least. Fully recommend. 8/10
